Bengali Cuisine: Cooking, Dining, and Conversation

Bengali Cuisine: We offer cooking classes in traditional Bengali cuisine.
All Veg or Vegan or a mixture of Veg and Chicken OR Fish dishes.
For over 20 years we have been introducing visitors to Kolkata and teaching them the art of Bengali cuisine. It is quite different from other Indian cuisines and simply delicious.
Bengali Cooking Classes, Meal with conversation.
The cooking class is around 3 and a half hours per session with one to four students with our teacher, in her home.
Please note that our kitchen is small and four people can be a crowd.
The class and meal covers:
Rice or a Special Bread (usually stuffed with a vegetable or lentil preparation)
Vegetarian or Non Vegetarian Dish (fish or chicken)
Vegetarian dish
A Dahl
Chutney and Papad (Papadam)
A Special Drink (non alcoholic)
Vegan Menus
Vegan bread ( chickpea flour/ rice flour) or Vegan rice ( oats, cracked wheat, quinoa etc)
A Dahl
Two types of vegetable curry
Chutney
Papad or fried veggie crisps
A drink ( non alcoholic)
Note: Anyone is free to specify particular ingredients they do not want included in any meal.
For Any Class
Usually we would take you by public transport to our home presenter after meeting you at your hotel and you make your way back to your hotel. This applies if you are staying in central Kolkata close to the Metro. If not we will make other arrangements.
We need to know well in advance your desired dates and number of classes and food choices as our home presenter is a working woman with many commitments.
Also please let us know where you will be staying with phone number if known and local mobile number if you have one,
Classes include:
individualised tuition in the home of an Indian women,
a recipe booklet,
background information on Bengali cuisine,
usually taken by Metro Rail or other public transport to their home.
You of course also get to eat the food you help prepare and meet your Indian teacher in a natural setting and talk about what ever interests you on your Indian travels.
The conversation after the lesson with our teacher is highly appreciated and feel free to take the opportunity to ask questions on Indian life and culture with a woman with great English and many interests.

Sometimes it will be necessary to meet close to our teacher's home at Triangular Park.
When?
If you are staying in the east or far south of the city it is closer to meet at Triangular Park.
This is easily done by taxi or Uber... just go to Triangular Park on Rashbehari Avenue and to the main gates on Rashbehari Avenue.
You may also go by Metro and a walk or auto rickshaw...just catch a Metro to Kalighat Metro station and walk to Triangular Park, (about 20 minutes) or catch an auto rickshaw (Tuk Tuk) to Triangular Park.
Meet at the main gates of Triangular Park.
People coming from Gariahat Crossing can walk from the crossing or catch an auto to Tri Park.
