KOLKATA WALKS
Since 1998... The original, the cheapest and still the best off the beaten track walks in town.
You go to places in the city that are usually overlooked by the casual traveller.
We will put together walks that meet your interests or suggest walks around
themes that interest you.
Day walks take approximately 4 hours. If you stay in central Kolkata we will meet you at your hotel or guest house and start the walk from there or arrange a place to meet that is suitable for you.
You just need to name a date or dates and we will confirm.
Then tell us where you will be staying when you know.
Walks usually start around 10.00 am when the city comes alive and we are happy to take one to five people.
Walks could include:
The vanishing north
The bazaars, big and small.
The riverside and the Howrah bridge
Ferry rides on the Ganga (Hooghly)
Varied Communities of Kolkata
The Palaces of Old Calcutta.
The British Raj
Where the Gods are made.
The city fringe
Tram rides to a Coffee House
Themes could include:
The British Influence
The rise and fall of the Bengali Babus
The Bazaars of old Calcutta
Places of worship
Along the river.
All walks highlight the cultural diversity of this city and the small
communities that collectively make it one of the most interesting cities in
the world. While we have suggested themes and named different walks in reality any walk will combine a number of these ideas.

Meet young India through English
If you would like to spend a few hours participating in spoken English classes we can arrange them for you at a local English tutorial college in the north of the city.
You can visit just one time or arrange with the coordinator to come back at other times during your stay. You do not have to prepare anything, it is more of an opportunity for local students to practice their conversational English with native speakers or others who have good English.
Usually it will take the form of a casual discussion with a small group around a table but you are welcome to add your own ideas if you wish.
It is a great way to meet young Bengalis and communicate in a meaningful way.
Cost
We make a small once only charge to cover our time meeting you and taking you to the class and arranging the class with the college. We stay and see you back to a taxi or metro station. You are free to come back again and again at no other cost to you.
For one person
Rs 1000/-
For two people
Rs 800/- each.
For three people and more..
Rs 600/- each
It is possible to combine a walk with the conversation class or participate in the class without the walk.
